Reverse Osmosis systems have become quite the newest luxury in the kitchen over the past 5 years. Have you ever thought about what the big deal is about RO water and if it is really that much better for you? Today I am going to explain the five step RO System and why RO water really is worth it.
The RO Systems we install have a five part system. The first filter your water hits is the sediment pre-filter. This filter removes particles, rust, and debris out of the water. Next, it goes through two carbon filters. These filters get rid of chlorine, cloudiness, odors, and other chemicals. The second to last step, which I deem as most important, is the RO membrane. When the water passes through the RO membrane, it has between 90-99% of impurities removed (that’s a LOT of impurities). This includes any metals or harmful compounds. The RO membrane lowers TDS (total dissolved solids) levels significantly, usually down to 15- 35 TDS. Umm did you hear that?? Your drinking water right now could have dissolved solids floating around that are not good for you. Here’s just a list of SOME common total dissolved solids.
Calcium
Chloride
Magnesium
Potassium
Zinc
Aluminum
Copper
Lead
Arsenic
Iron
Chlorine
Sodium
Fluoride
Bicarbonates
Sulfates
Pesticides
Herbicides
Don’t get me wrong, not all of these are horrible for you. Most are pretty common. The ones that scare me? Lead, Pesticides, Herbicides… These are literal TOXINS. I don't know about you, but these are definitely things I don't want in my water. I can take my multivitamin and get all the good elements I need without putting toxins in my body. Again, this is why I deem the RO membrane as the most important step. The final step is the post-filter. This is a coconut shell activated carbon filter. It uses carbon to filter out odors and leaves you with wonderful (no toxin included) tasting water. Some might think this is a lot of steps just to have fancy drinking water, but I say you only get one body, might as well take care of it in the ways you know about.
I was reading an article the other week that mentioned how when you are dehydrated, the best way to help your kidneys filter out toxins is to drink RO water. It wouldn’t make much sense to attempt at hydrating yourself by drinking water with toxins would it? At that point you’re basically causing your kidneys more work! In this day in age we are already surrounded by more toxins than ever before in different products, so why not give your body a break when it comes to the one thing it needs to filter ALL the toxins out… Water! Drink your RO water, take your vitamins, and stay hydrated out there.
